Gonzen Mine
Founded in 1919, the Gonzen AG iron ore mine belongs to Georg Fischer and Sulzer, who each hold 49 %. The iron ore mine ceased operations in 1966. Visitors can now take a guided tour of the mine and see the methods and equipment used as well as the means of transporting the ore from the mine. Since June 2005, this mountain – with the highest iron ore content of any in Switzerland – has had an additional tourist attraction: two caverns that have been built into the stone.

Enter the rugged world of mining. Find out about miners' jobs as they once were. The only things you'll be missing (for your own safety) are the deafening noise of the jack hammers and the blast fumes.
