Mongla - Bangladesh
The city Mongla commands an abundance of water. However, due to the high degree of salinity it cannot be used as drinking water. The Clean Water Foundation therefore supported Caritas Switzerland in developing a product, which allows the population of Mongla to easily and with only little costs purify pond and rainwater. Only one drop of the liquid chlorine, called “Joler Doctor” (Water-Doctor), is enough to kill the bacteria in one liter of water. Thereby, diseases like diarrhea, dysentery and cholera now occur only rarely.
Only in July 2017 a total of 3’651 households benefitted from Joler Doctor. In the future, also other regions of the country should benefit from these findings and successful practices.
